Information for ICAVIS workshop in Helsinki 2-3 August 2007 on David Lloyd/Jason Dykes presentation 'Mediating potential users of a geovisualization application to geovisualization experts using a scenario'
This page is for delegates attending the ICAVIS workshop in Helsinki - agenda here - and gives some context for our presentation. My research is concerned with creating a geovisualization application using techniques from the domain of human-computer interaction design (HCID) with the aim of understanding how different HCID techniques work (or don't work) in the context of geovisualization and to see what HCID techniques need to change as a consequence of the special nature of geovisualization.
For more detail, please read the extended abstract presented to the GISRUK07 conference in April 2007 by Lloyd, Dykes & Radburn 'Understanding geovisualization users and their requirements – a user-centred approach' which details work that took place before the work described in the Helsinki paper 'Mediating potential users of a geovisualization application to geovisualization experts using a scenario'
To get a quick overview of how this works, the diagram below has a left-hand column showing a typical HCID-led applications. At various points in the development, an individual HCID technique is assessed. The sum of these constitutes the research agenda, culminating in the work of the PhD. I am currently in the middle of the low-level prototyping phase.
Please have a look at my home page if you would like to know more about my work.
